HKEX Welcomes Asia’s First Crypto Asset ETFs

Hong Kong Stock Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to welcome Asia’s first crypto asset ETFs today (Friday), further expanding its product ecosystem by offering Hong Kong and international investors even more choice.

The two new ETFs listed today: CSOP Bitcoin Futures ETF and CSOP Ether Futures ETF, both managed by CSOP Asset Management Limited, track standardized, cash-settled Bitcoin futures contracts and Ether futures contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange ( CME) respectively.

ETFs are one of the fastest growing segments in the HKEX markets, and the diversity of products available in Hong Kong continues to expand in 2022: highlights include listings for the first metaverse ETF, the first ever ETF futures carbon, the first blockchain ETF, and the listing of ETFs on Stock Connect.

In addition, average daily turnover for exchange-traded products (ETPs), including ETFs and leveraged and inverse products (L&I products), for the first 11 months increased 50% to HK$11.8 billion compared to with HK$7.8 billion during the same period. last year, reflecting strong growth in market interest in these products. As of November 2022, 168 ETPs were listed on HKEX, with a market capitalization of HK$373.5 billion.
