Pete Sessions, a congressman representing Texas’s 17th congressional district, stated that Bitcoin will be a driving factor in rebuilding US energy independence. Supporters of his opinion included well-known BTC HODLer Senator Cynthia Lummis.
BTC mining to make the US energy independent
The latest American politician to express his thoughts on the cryptocurrency industry is Congressman Pete Sessions. A few days ago, the 67-year-old Republican said that bitcoin is “aligned with American values and will strengthen the dollar.”
Yesterday (March 21), he went further, referring to bitcoin mining and predicting that the process will rebuild America’s energy independence.

While some users commented on his post that bitcoin mining is an environmentally harmful process for the planet and that the US should refrain, others agreed with his concept. Unsurprisingly, he saw support from Sen. Cynthia Lummis, who retweeted Session’s statement.
It is worth noting that Lummis is among the most prominent cryptocurrency supporters and bitcoin HODLers. Her bought 5 BTC in 2013 when the price per coin was around $300. Last summer she reloaded your holdings worth up to $100,000 of the main digital asset.
In October 2021, Lummis expressed concern about rising inflation in the United States and showed disappointment at how the US authorities failed to bring the situation under control. However, she believe The collapse of the dollar after the financial crisis is not a fatal event thanks to the existence of cryptocurrencies:
“Thank God for Bitcoin and other digital currencies that transcend the irresponsibility of governments, including ours. That is an indictment of our responsibility to address this imminent, predictable and massive problem.”
Cryptocurrencies thrive in Texas
In recent months, the “Lone Star State” has become the crypto mining capital of the US. This is due in part to low electricity prices in the area, allowing miners operate more economically, and to the positive stance of local regulators and legislators. One of those politicians is Steve Adler, the mayor of Austin, Texas.
Earlier this month, he proposed two initiatives to make the city a “world leader in the crypto space.” These are promoting the benefits of blockchain and Web3 technology and adopting bitcoin as a payment method.
Adler described the core digital asset as a store of value, which has enhanced security and provides instant transactions “across geographic and political boundaries.” As such, adopting BTC as a means of paying municipal taxes, fees, and fines could be highly beneficial to the economic development of Austin.
